Veterans and teachers working together to reach students

The Veteran Story Project in the Classroom project began as a collaboration between Carver County Veteran Services and Eastern Carver County Schools. Rachel facilitated the project that brought together more than 20 veterans and more than 200 students. Veterans had a chance to share stories and be heard, while students received a valuable and tangible civics lesson.

Rachel and her team of veterans are excited to coordinate this program in your school community. We will guide you through:

  • Securing grant funding to bring the program to your school or district

  • Facilitating relationships among veterans, students and teachers

  • Equipping teachers with everything they need to facilitate a multi-week curriculum

  • Planning and implementing interview day and its related community-building activities.

Only about 6% of the population of Minnesota are Veterans.  Unlike prior generations, most children today do not know a Veteran and do not understand their sacrifices.  The Veterans Story Project connects those children to Veterans in their communities so they can learn their stories and what it means to serve.  That's why I was happy to take part in the project myself.
